Lance Stroll’s performance at the 2023 Monaco GP was far away from being called ‘impressive’. The Canadian driver was left frustrated after qualifying on Saturday as he was fourth quickest at the start of qualifying only to get knocked out in Q2. The Aston Martin driver was going to start the Monaco GP from 14th on the grid. He also had a weigh-bridge infringement during quali.

Meanwhile Fernando Alonso went on to qualify just 0.084 seconds adrift of pole position sitter Max Verstappen. Sunday’s race was not ideal for the Canadian either. While his teammate was fighting at the front, Lance was busy struggling at the back coming into contact with the drivers at the hairpin. The Aston Martin driver went round the outside. He also went on to push Sergio Perez off the track after the tunnel section.

Overall, Lance Stroll’s performance brought out a bigger issue in the team’s current situation. With Fernando Alonso finishing P2 and his teammate failing to finish the race, all doesn’t seem to be going according to plan. When Lawrence Stroll bought the team, he brought Lance Stroll with him and gave him a seat at Racing Point F1 which is now rebranded to Aston Martin F1. Fans are of the opinion that Stroll Sr needs to reconsider.

With Lawrence Stroll’s plan for Aston Martin’s success taking big steps, his son Lance Stroll seems to be the only nail on the road. His performances have been very unflattering and the Monaco GP was a clear example. While Lance Stroll struggles at the back, his teammate is fighting for wins and podiums. While there are many excuses for Lance Stroll, it’s not like this is the first time something like this has happened. Fernando Alonso is out there carrying the whole team and going for P2 in the constructors championship. Meanwhile Lance is just not able to keep up.
