At 39 years of age, Lewis Hamilton might look like he has achieved everything there is to achieve in Formula 1. With 7 record-setting World Championships, 104 Grands Prix wins, and almost 200 podium finishes, there is no doubt that Lewis has made it in the pinnacle of motorsports. Not only this, but in the process, Lewis has also become one of the highest-paid athletes in the world as he currently commands a reported net worth of $285 million. And even after all this, the wildly successful Mercedes racer has shown no signs of slowing down as he is nearing his 40s now.
Lewis Hamilton recently signed another renewal with Mercedes as he perhaps wishes to go for a record-shattering eighth World Championship victory with the Brackley outfit. But it is quite unfathomable to think that Lewis was just a young karting driver once, with big dreams of entering into Formula 1 at one point in time. And during those days, he was subjected to disgusting comments that were rooted in racism just because he is Black and there has never been a Black racer in F1 other than him.
Speaking at a recent interview for Tommy Hilfiger, Lewis Hamilton spoke openly about the hurtful comments he has had to deal with to make it to the place where he is now in Formula 1.
When I was a child, I always heard a lot of people say that I had no chance of being an F1 driver, that there was no one like me there. I remember how painful it was to hear those things.Lewis Hamilton said about his childhood struggles, via X.
Lewis Hamilton applauded by rival Team Boss for his ‘good Grace’s after Abu Dhabi 2021 GP
The epic clash between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at the grand finale of the 2021 F1 Championship in Abu Dhabi will go down in the history of the sport as one of the most exciting races ever. But even though Lewis Hamilton seemed to be in a brilliant form throughout the race, there were some controversial moments which led to Max Verstappen snatching his debut title, this defeating Lewis, who was targeting his record-setting eighth World Championship.
But recently, Christian Horner reminisced Lewis Hamilton’s attitude after losing the Abu Dhabi race to Max. The Briton recalled that Lewis seemed absolutely composed and he was even courteous enough to shake hands with Horner off-camera despite his heart-breaking loss.
I felt the way that Lewis handled that disappointment after the race, hats off to him. I shook his hand in the driver’s room after the race and he had the good grace to say well done.
In other news, Lewis Hamilton has recently teased one of his off-the-track ventures at his most recent interview for Tommy Hilfiger. The British.sports star said that he might have a new clothing line coming up with the American designer. But as of now, no official confirmation has come out.
