Lewis Hamilton is a global icon. Hamilton has secured his place in history as one of the all-time greats in Formula 1. Additionally, the F1 driver is connected with other sports stars and different sports as well. Lewis is a big Football fan. As such, when the Brazilian legend, Pele passed away on December 29. The Brit was at the forefront of paying respects to the late Football icon.
Lewis Hamilton uploaded multiple stories on Instagram, as the Brit remembered an influential figure in his life. Hamilton gave a heartfelt tribute to Pele and mentioned the world losing one of the greats it has ever seen. Lewis wrote, “Lost a legend today.” The F1 champion thanked the Brazilian for his time in the world and for making the world witness such immense talent. Hamilton continued, “Thank you for sharing your talent, genius, and love with us.”
Lewis Hamilton expressed the honor he had for Pele. The Brit stated how the 3-time FIFA world champion would always be an inspiration. Be it to sportspersons in various sports or even the common folk. Hamilton stated, “@Pele’s legacy will inspire us forever and always.” The picture posted with this caption depicted the late Football icon holding the 3 world cups he won for his country.

“Meant so much to get this from the legend himself,” Lewis Hamilton recalls Pele gifting the Brit a special jersey
Pele had a bond with Lewis Hamilton. Despite the vast difference in the timeline of their careers, Pele had provided Hamilton with a special gift. A Brazilian Football jersey with a handwritten message for Lewis. After Hamilton’s victory at the 2021 Brazilian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver raised the Brazilian flag on the top step of the podium. Pele gifted this jersey to Lewis as a way of appreciation for this gesture.
Hamilton shared the picture of Pele holding that jersey and remarked about the significance it held in his life. Lewis wrote, “Meant so much to get this from the legend himself.” Lewis Hamilton was also certain of keeping this gift safe for ages to come. The Brit stated, “Keeping it safe with me always.” It must be noted that Hamilton stated his support for Brazil after its elimination from the 2022 FIFA world cup.
Lewis Hamilton has a special connection with the country of Brazil. The 37-year-old grew up idolizing the Brazilian F1 legend, Ayrton Senna. As such, Lewis has an emotional attachment to this Latin American nation. Recently, Hamilton also became an honorary Brazilian citizen. It is terrible to witness Pele’s death but one thing is certain, Lewis will continue to make the Football legend proud in time to come.
