“Not where we want to be,” Lewis Hamilton gives worrisome verdict on Mercedes’ 2023 chances
Lewis Hamilton expects Mercedes to struggle at the start of the 2023 season.

Lewis Hamilton, ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, believes that the Mercedes f1 team will have a difficult start to the 2023 F1 season. Lewis Hamilton has made it known that he knew it from the moment he first drove the W14. Moreover, he feels that pressure would be immense as rival teams have made a good step for the 2023 season.
While shedding light on the worrisome picture at Mercedes, Hamilton said, “I knew from the moment I drove the car, the challenge we’d be facing. On a positive note, not having the bouncing this year is a huge, huge plus. Trying to understand what the problems were while bouncing made it difficult to figure out what those were,“.
“We don’t have that now, so now we can just focus on pure performance. I’m encouraged to see the focus and courage of everyone in the team, just so focused on getting us back to the top. We’re not where we want to be to start the season, but this still is a multi-championship-winning team and group of people,” the 7-time World champion added.

Lewis Hamilton backs Max Verstappen for another strong season
While the situation at the Brackley-based team is a bit dire, Hamilton has backed Max Verstappen to again hit the ground running from the very first race of the season. Max Verstappen blew away his competition last year, the seven-time World Champion, while praising the Dutchman, added, “Hopefully, those behind will continue to apply pressure [to Red Bull]. Ferrari have a decent package, Aston has a decent package, and we are hunting too. I don’t think Max will slip up. He is a world champion and I wouldn’t question his determination and focus.”
Looking at Lewis Hamilton’s remarks, it is clear that he believes Verstappen will start the 2023 F1 season strong. However, he hopes Ferrari and Aston Martin will give Red Bull a tough fight during the initial races.
Mercedes fell backward on the grid last year, and considering how Hamilton has talked about his team’s prospects for the 2023 season, would the former giants of the sport be able to bounce back this year?
