Logan Sargeant thanks Williams for ‘having patience’ as AlphaTauri throws out fellow rookie Nyck deVries

Logan Sargeant has perhaps realised how his team must have confidence in him after seeing AlphaTauri fling out Nyck deVries mid-season because of poor results.

Logan Sargeant thanks Williams for ‘having patience’ as AlphaTauri throws out fellow rookie Nyck deVries

The drama surrounding Nyck deVries‘ terrible situation in Formula 1 has shown how ruthless it can be for racers who take part in the highest league of motorsports. The world of F1 is completely based on the results that the drivers churn out every weekend. And once they fail to perform, they stand the chance of getting the axe from their team and they might also have to exit F1 altogether in some cases.

It happened with Daniel Ricciardo when McLaren prematurely ended their deal with him and it has happened again with Nyck deVries as AlphaTauri showed him the door. When deVries had gotten his Williams into the top 10 at last year’s Italian Grand Prix as a replacement driver for Alex Albon, Helmut Marko was amazed at him. Gauging the potential in the Dutchman, he invited the 28-year-old to take up Pierre Gasly’s seat at AlphaTauri since the Frenchman was headed towards Alpine.

But now, ten races into his debut F1 season, deVries has failed to deliver on his promises and is sitting at the bottom of the F1 standings with zero points. Thus, he is being ousted in favor of Daniel Ricciardo who will be seen partnering Yuki Tsunoda for the rest of the season. While deVries will no longer be allowed to call himself an F1 racer from the Hungarian GP, there is another 2023 season rookie who has similar results as Nyck–Logan Sargeant.

The American has failed to score points for his team and has been repeatedly outperformed by teammate Alex Albon. Yet, there is no news coming at him that he has to leave his seat in favor of another driver, and for this, he is grateful. Thus, he thanked his team amidst the Nyck deVries drama and said, “For me being a rookie, just to have the team’s support throughout what has been a tough few races before these previous couple of good ones is really nice.”

Logan Sargeant continued, “Just to know they have my back, to keep working with me, trying to help me, and since we brought the updates to the car it’s felt really good.”

At the Silverstone Grand Prix, Logan narrowly lost out on a points finish even after outshining the likes of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas during Qualifying. His next outing at the Hungaroring will bring up another opportunity for the Florida native to earn some points for his team. Now, it remains to be seen whether Logan manages to pay Williams back for their confidence in him by getting a good score by the end of this year, or if he gets replaced at the British outfit by Mick Schumacher.
