“He has the opportunity to stay longer,” Mark Webber backs Fernando Alonso to stay in F1 beyond 2024
Mark Webber ardently believes that Fernando Alonso has got every chance of staying in F1 beyond his current deal.

Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso
Mark Webber, the former F1 driver, has talked about the future prospects of Fernando Alonso in F1. Webber ardently feels that the Spaniard has still got everything in him to do his thing in F1 for an extended period of time. It is believed that Alonso’s current deal with Aston Martin is until the end of the 2024 F1 season.
Fernando Alonso‘s life at Aston Martin has got off to a prolific start. He earned a brilliant P3 finish in Bahrain and once again proved his doubters wrong. At 41 years old, Alonso has not let any rust settle onto him and is still the aggressive driver he was during his Championship-winning years.
Mark Webber is very impressed with the way Alonso and while talking about him, he added, “I think when you get older, we all mature in different ways, and we have different priorities in our lives. He’s been in this paddock for 20 years. Naturally, it’s different from when it arrived. That’s obvious, but the instinct and the driver, it’s all still there.”
“I think, the traits are there, everything that characterizes him is still there, he’s a competitor, he wants to fight people, in a really tenacious and self-rewarding way, and that will never leave Fernando. He has the opportunity to stay longer than these two years, of course. Never rule out that Fernando runs until he is 44 years old.” Mark Webber, while praising Fernando Alonso, has made a bold claim. The former Red Bull driver feels that if Alonso is able to stay competitive in the upcoming years, then he has every chance of making his trade in F1 until he is 44 years old. Considering his current age, that would mean staying in F1 for at least three more years.
Mark Webber on Fernando Alonso’s podium finish in Bahrain

While Mark Webber feels that Fernando Alonso could stay in F1 for a few more years, he also thinks the Spaniard can do special things during the ongoing 2023 F1 season. The two-time F1 World Champion put a stellar performance at the Bahrain GP, and considering this fact, Webber is on point in his assessment.
While talking about it, he added, “It’s not that we needed confirmation of his talent. It’s not in doubt, but now he can enjoy leading a team into the next big phase of his career, he’s going to be very motivated, it’s incredible. It depends, of course, on whether Red Bull has phenomenal reliability, if they do then their victories are assured but he can get a win one day, I’m sure he can get something.”
“The podium is absolutely special, but we can’t forget that Red Bull was fully on cruise control, they were doing it very slowly, so they are in impressive form. Let’s see how the Aston Martin fares on tracks where degradation is minor, but [I’m] very, very happy for him and for the team, they deserve the result.”
Mark Webber has made it crystal clear that Fernando Alonso is at the peak of his powers in F1. However, despite this, he feels that Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso would face a tough challenge from the Red Bull F1 Team during the current campaign. Max Verstappen and Co. secured a dominant victory in Bahrain. However, the AMR23 has also looked like a lethal weapon in the hands of Alonso, and who knows, if certain things go in favor of the Spaniard during the season, he could potentially land a race win for the Silverstone-based team.
