Max Verstappen explains why he never watched ‘Drive to Survive’: ‘I know my side of the story, that’s enough’
Max Verstappen spoke about the Netflix Docu series - ‘Drive to Survive’ about the World Championship and conveyed his dismay regarding the famous series.

Netflix released the first season of ‘Formula 1 – Drive to Survive’ in March 2019, the first season focused on the 2018 World Championship. The docuseries became a quick hit as it attracted multiple fans who was previously unaware of the pinnacle of motorsports. The Netflix creation has led F1 towards a newfound success in the United States. The fans binged the series as it introduced them to the world of Formula 1 through the dramatic narratives that portrayed what the personnel face at the paddocks.
Max Verstappen, however, has always remained critical of the series. He even famously refused to appear in the fourth season of the series (released in 2022), which was based on the fabled 2021 title fight between the Dutchman and Lewis Hamilton. The Netflix series, although popular across the globe, has attracted criticism from the reigning World Champion for portraying the title battle in an ‘over-dramatic’ way.
Now, Verstappen was recently asked whether he personally watches ‘Drive to Survive’, the Dutchman’s reply was filled with his famous ‘sarcastic zest’ as he denied watching any of the season, as reported by Time Magazine.
I don’t need to watch it because I know what happens, I’m also not very interested to hear from our neighbors how they saw the season. I know my side of the story. For me, that’s enough.
This is not the first time that the series has been criticized by members of the paddock. The series in itself however, cannot be stripped of the fact of introducing the World of Formula 1 to a new demographic of viewers.
Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz to take part in Netflix Golf and F1 crossover gimmick ahead of Las Vegas GP
The highly anticipated inaugural Grand Prix on the Las Vegas streets has been a focal point on the 2023 Formula 1 calendar since its announcement. Netflix, which significantly boosted F1’s popularity with ‘Drive to Survive’, is planning an innovative crossover between two elite sports, Formula 1 and golf. A new golf tournament will be exclusively available on Netflix and is set to become a major headline event ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

As reported by express.co.uk, Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz are scheduled to participate in this unique tournament, which involves several Formula 1 stars playing golf. Joining the former McLaren teammates will be two other F1 stars, Alex Albon from Williams and Pierre Gasly from Alpine. This crossover event follows the success of two Netflix series dedicated to these two sports: ‘Drive to Survive’ and ‘Full-Swing’.
While Norris and Sainz are known for their golfing enthusiasm, Albon and Gasly’s golfing skills remain relatively uncharted territory. Norris has previously expressed his deep passion for golf multiple times. It will be fascinating to see how these F1 drivers fare against professional golfers in the upcoming tournament.
