Max Verstappen gets booed again in Silverstone as fans call out ‘disgusting behavior’ from British crowd
While reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen took the lead in the final Free Practice session ahead of the Qualifiers for the British Grand Prix, he could not deliver the results that he promised to his fans as he failed to clinch the pole position at Silverstone after losing out to Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz at the very end of Q3. If that was not all, Max’s voice was drowned by a chorus of boos as he was giving his post-quali interview to a Sky Sports presenter.
The Silverstone crowd, quite apparently, still feel Max robbed their country’s jewel Lewis Hamilton of the Championship title last season and that explains their collective jeer at Verstappen on Saturday.
Fans and followers of Max Verstappen have called out the Silverstone crowd for their “disgusting” behavior on Twitter and they have also mentioned a similar incident which happened on Thursday, before the British GP weekend kicked off. All these scattered events suggest that the majority of the British people are still not over Lewis’ missed opportunity in 2021 to grab the Championship title and they are not happy that Max Verstappen is currently leading this year’s WDC Standings as well, with Hamilton down in the sixth position as of now.
F1 Twitter calls out Silverstone crowd for booing at Max Verstappen
There are many people, mostly in Europe, who follow Formula 1 passionately, and the majority of them belong to the United Kingdom. With seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton coming from Britain, it goes without saying that the Britons are proud of their country’s jewel and they hoped he would get his eighth Championship title to break Michael Schumacher’s world record in the F1 2021 Championship.
While the Championship results for last season was decided at the very end of the Abu Dhabi GP, many of Lewis’ followers still believe the race was set up to help Verstappen win the title against Lewis Hamilton. And that is why the crowd’s sentiments were turned against Max Verstappen when he was giving his post-quali interview on Saturday at Silverstone. While Max Verstappen kept speaking to the F1 presenter from Sky Sports, the distinct booing from the audience behind him became too loud to ignore.
Speaking of the Qualifiers, Max Verstappen said, “It was quite a tricky qualifying with the rain. Also, because it was raining and then dry you had to find pace at the right time, but the car was working well.”
