Max Verstappen SHOCKINGLY refutes Lewis Hamilton’s claim of winning seven World Championships–but turns out it is a Reddit meme
Lewis Hamilton's 2008 adversary Felipe Massa has claimed the Brit's debut Championship belongs to him and some memes suggested that Max Verstappen supports this view.
The Formula One Championship battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is a common fable among the fans. Almost every other person is aware of the time when the ferocious fight between an ambitious first-time title challenger and an experienced seven-time World Champion astonished everyone. It was such a neck-and-neck duel that the results for the 2021 F1 season could only be finalised at the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, the last race in the roster.
While Max Verstappen has been defending his reign as the Champion for the last two years and is on his way towards a hat-trick in 2023 as well, Lewis Hamilton is not backing down. The 38-year-old recently renewed his contract with Mercedes for two more seasons, and it needs not to be said that Lewis is still staying in the sport to chase the elusive eighth World title. But Max, on the other hand, does not even recognise the F1 Championships that Lewis Hamilton has already won officially.
During one of the recent interviews, Max Verstappen allegedly objected that Lewis Hamilton has six Championships. He also reportedly said that ‘he does not read Wikipedia pages’. Some news outlets like Express even reported on these explosive quotes from the reigning World Champion, but then it was ascertained that it all started with a meme that circulated on the internet.
Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 Championship win is still disputed
Lewis’ first World Championship in Formula One came from a hard-fought battle against Brazilian racing star Felipe Massa. The 2008 Championship remains disputed even today since Lewis won by only one point. And a few days ago, former F1 Boss Bernie Ecclestone confirmed there was a conspiracy regarding Nelson Piquet Jr’s crash at the Singapore GP that cost Massa some precious points. Now, Massa has demanded overturning of the results of the 2008 Championship, and he even asked for monetary compensation.
While Massa is seeking his lost F1 title from over a decade back, Lewis Hamilton has his eyes on the future. He has given optimistic comments on Mercedes’ performance after the last few Grands Prix, and hopes to go for a podium win at the Singapore GP. But it remains to be seen if Felipe Massa gets his F1 World Championship win afterall and if the FIA lose a massive sum of money over this dispute.
