Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. Subsequently, teams and drivers must abide by an extensive set of regulations laid down by the FIA. However, drivers argue that the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) does not get an adequate say in this matter. Now, 2023 world champion Max Verstappen has expressed his frustration for the same.

The three-time world champion made it clear that he was not happy with the current situation regarding the sporting regulations. Verstappen claimed that there were too many rules for drivers and teams alongside a rather lengthy decision-making process as well. This has been evident in a variety of cases recently.

Sometimes you have too many rules to keep in mind. And too many policies to make a change or make a decision.

Max Verstappen told Total-motorsport.com

Max Verstappen reckoned that if it was possible he would’ve bought Formula 1 itself to bring in a change in the status quo. Although, the Dutch driver admitted that such a scenario is not possible in the real world, Moreover, Verstappen believed that the GDPA should get more say regarding such matters. The GDPA is currently presided over by George Russell.

Of course, I wish the GPDA had something to say. I'd like to own the F1 if I could, but that's not the real world.

Max Verstappen wants GPDA to have more influence in F1

The reigning world champion was convinced that the GPDA should have more influence in the sport. Max Verstappen pointed out that the GPDA was an association that represents the voice of all drivers and not just the opinion of a single individual. As such, the sport could benefit massively if it hears the collective opinion of the entire grid.

I think it would be prettier if the GPDA could have a little more influence, because it is not just a pilot, it is the majority.

Nevertheless, F1 drivers have continued to express their opinions in recent times. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are one of the few drivers who are never afraid of speaking their minds even if the matter is related to the FIA or F1. Verstappen has even slammed FOM for continuously pushing the Sprint weekend format.

Certainly, the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association should hold more power in Formula 1. The body is the collective voice of 20 of the best drivers in the world. As such, their opinions must hold more sway when it comes to regulating the pinnacle of motorsport. However, it remains to be seen if Verstappen’s words can make an impact.
