The roiling rivalry between reigning World Champion Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s winning hope Charles Leclerc has been the highlight of the current Formula 1 2022 season. While the defending World title-holder is leading the Standings as of now with a whopping 80-point-advantage over his closest rival, Charles Leclerc, the start of the year had projected an entirely very different points table.

At the very beginning of the year, in the Bahrain Grand Prix, Ferrari had come out with their near-perfect F1-75 racecar, which was initially touted as the Championship-winning car of this season. But then, the Italian team fell through due to some engine troubles resulting in DNFs, Charles‘ own mistakes, and the team’s flawed decision-making. While Ferrari faltered to keep up with their performances, Red Bull took full advantage of the situation and went past the Maranello outfit to capture the lead in the Constructors’ Championship.

Jacques Villeneuve feels that Charles Leclerc could do even better this season, and is unsure if he is on the same level as Max Verstappen.

Both Max and Charles are extremely talented and phenomenal at their jobs, but there are some things about Verstappen, which set him apart from the Monegasque and help him win races against Leclerc. While the two drivers put up neck-to-neck fight in the Qualifying Sessions that are held on the Saturdays prior to the Main Race, the biggest advantage that Verstappen gets over Leclerc is his performance in Sundays.

Charles Leclerc’s flaws on Sunday make him lose to Max Verstappen when it comes to winning the Championship challenge. Time and again, it has been seen that even after landing pole position in the Qualifiers, Charles Leclerc has either yield his lead to Verstappen, or he has failed to finish the races due to some troubles with his car. In fact, out of the thirteen races that have taken place till now, Charles Leclerc has got 7 pole positions as opposed to Verstappen’s 3. But still, the Dutchman works his magic on Sundays and that makes all the difference for him.
