Max Verstappen's mother, Sophia Kumpen accused Sergio Perez of cheating on his wife

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have composed the driver lineup for Red Bull in Formula 1 for the past two seasons. Verstappen is the “golden boy” of the Austrian team, who had shown immense talent at a very young age, leading to Red Bull bringing the Dutchman to Formula 1 at the age of 17! Ever since then, the now two-time world champion has proven himself time and time again after becoming the lead driver for the team.

Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez was signed by Christian Horner for 2021 after Horner’s team had failed to find a suitable second driver since the exit of Daniel Ricciardo at the end of 2018. Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon were given the opportunity to partner with Max at the top team but both drivers failed to be at the required level as they struggled to match the Dutch driver. Perez came out as the best alternative for the Milton Keynes-based team as a strong and consistent midfield performer.

Post-race Verstappen was clear regarding his disobeyal of team orders

Since Checo’s entry at Red Bull, the team has won two drivers’ championships and one constructors’ championship. The Mexican has provided his level best and matched his younger teammate throughout his time in the team. The 32-year-old has also won 3 races for the Austrian team. More often than not, Perez has agreed to play second fiddle to Verstappen in order to help the Dutchman in his fight for the world title, be it in 2021 against Lewis Hamilton or 2022 against Charles Leclerc.

Max Verstappen’s mother does not shy away from spreading rumors about the Mexican F1 driver

Max Verstappen was affirmative in his refusal of helping Sergio Perez for the championship

The Brazilian Grand Prix has been a nightmare for the Red Bull camp. Max Verstappen‘s refusal of giving his position to Sergio Perez was not seen positively by the Mexican driver who told the team on the radio, “It shows who he really is.” This was a reference by the 32-year-old over the Dutchman’s denial of helping the Mexican for P2 in the drivers’ standings. This has put Checo level on points with Charles Leclerc with 290 each.

The Mexican did not hold back post-race, mentioning the incident as “disappointing” and stating, “if [Max] has two championships it’s thanks to me,” reminding his teammate about all the times the 32-year-old has sacrificed his own races to help out the Dutchman’s F1 championship prospects. As we head to the season finale in Abu Dhabi, things do not seem to cool down, especially on social media.

Verstappen’s mother, Sophia Kumpen recently commented on Instagram, fueling rumors of Perez cheating on his wife, Carola Martinez, rumors without any substantial evidence yet. Kumpen said, “And then in the evening cheating on his wife.” This will further escalate the tensions within the team, creating an even bigger mess for Christian Horner and Helmut Marko. Despite the team’s best efforts, even if the two drivers have agreed to come to terms with each other, there now will be a silent feud amidst them, especially after such blatant personal accusations over unconfirmed rumors.

Formula 1 is no stranger to rivalries between teammates, after all, your teammate is your first opponent. We do not have to look deep into F1’s history to find teammates with sour relations, be it Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, the list is endless. And now with the oncoming unease at Red Bull, we can add another to this list.
