Lewis Hamilton, the soon-to-be Ferrari F1 driver, has thrown the driver market into utter chaos. Since revealing that he will be moving to the Italian team from 2025 onwards, the vacant seat at Mercedes has become a topic of immense discussion.
While a lot has been said about the potential drivers who could replace Lewis Hamilton next year, the Mercedes Reserve/Alpine’s Hypercar driver, Mick Schumacher has also thrown his name into the hat. Moreover, has recently admitted that he has had a short talk with Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, regarding the same.
While talking about the Mercedes seat and his chances, he recently said, as reported by Motorsport:
Of course, it is a position that involves a lot of pressure, but I feel that I can handle it. However, that decision depends on me. Without a doubt, we will be able to talk more in the coming days.
Schumacher with his comments, has made it quite clear that he is very much interested in securing the 2025 seat on the Mercedes F1 team. The 24-year-old has not been seen racing in the sport since the end of the 2022 season.
Mick Schumacher will find it tough to secure the coveted Mercedes seat
While Mick Schumacher has made it known that has held brief talks with Toto Wolff regarding the 2025 Mercedes seat, the chances of the former eventually getting the drive alongside George Russell are very slim.
The lights of Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon, and Alex Albon are likely more preferable options for the Brackley-based team. Moreover, as per the rumors, there is also a slight possibility of the former 4-time F1 world champion, Sebastian Vettel, returning to the sport to take the place of Hamilton next year.

Keeping in view everything that has been discussed above, it is going to be fascinating to see how Mick Schumacher’s chances of securing the 2025 Mercedes seat will develop during the course of the upcoming 2024 F1 season. Moreover, in order to cement himself as a potential candidate, he will be required to do well with Alpine in their Hypercar project.
