No progress on Lewis Hamilton’s contract talks as Mercedes wants to wait until winter

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have been competing together since 2013. Since their first deal was announced, the British racing driver has gone on to hit the 100 race wins mark and has also won the driver’s championship 6 times with the German Automotive giant. If that doesn’t scream success then we don’t know what does. Ever since Ex-F1 driver Niki Lauda convinced him to join the team, it has been a phenomenal journey so far.

Coming into the 2022 season, it has been full of ups and downs. Following his title defence last year, Lewis Hamilton is fully adamant on winning a record breaking 8th F1 title and will stop at nothing. For the British driver, Mercedes seems like the obvious choice as they aim to be better in 2023. However a contract between the two parties is yet to be signed but that doesn’t seem to concern either of them.

The 7 time world champion’s contract ends in 2023 and is up for renewal. Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff have supposedly agreed to hold contract talks when the situation suits them. Multiple individuals thought that the Mercedes driver was planning to retire. However he confirmed that he is inclined to sign a multi year deal with the team which was proved to be a great amount of reassurance to his fans. Here is what Toto Wolff had to say about the situation.

Here is what Toto Wolff had to say regarding Hamilton’s contract. “We want to definitely finish the season and then find some quiet time over the winter like we have done last time around,” he said. The Mercedes team boss has made it clear that Lewis is their first and only choice to fill that second seat in the team and it’s no surprise to anyone.

After having what could be called the ‘best’ car for many years, the 2022 season was like a kick in the stomach for the 7 time world champion as he strived towards excellence. The Mercedes driver is yet to record his first win of the season but it sure looks like a dream as there are only 2 races left. However this shouldn’t overshadow the fact that Lewis has been consistently getting good results and has been making the most out of the car.
