Oscar Piastri’s rookie season in Formula 1 has been nothing but interesting so far. However, his road to the pinnacle of motorsport was a whole new level of drama. After achieving immense success in lower categories the Aussie used to be a reserve driver for Alpine F1 team. After Fernando Alonso announced that he will be leaving Alpine to join Aston Martin for the 2023 season, a seat became vacant at the Enstone squad .

Alpine immediately announced Oscar Piastri as Fernando Alonso’s replacement in a press release. However, Oscar went on to stare publicly that he didn’t sign any contract. He was in talks with McLaren at that time. After winning the court case against Alpine, the Aussie went on to join McLaren for his rookie season and was partnered with experienced racer Lando Norris.

After a few bad races this year, McLaren seems to have truly found their pace and are able to fight at the top of the grid. This in turn has given the rookie driver a chance to shine as he went on to finish 2nd in the sprint race that happened today in Spa. Ever since the upgrades were fitted on the cars’s Oscar had been given Lando Norris a run for his money.

Ahead  of the 2023 Belgian GP, Alpine decided to part ways with Otmar Szafnauer which came as a big shock to the paddock. He had a prominent role in trying to prevent Oscar Piastri from joining McLaren. After Oscar’s best ever finish in F1, Nicole Piastri liked tweets stating things such as “If I was Oscar Piastri I would simply tweet ‘that one was for you Otmar Szafnauer’ then delete the app and turn off my phone.”

Oscar Piastri gave Max Verstappen a run for his money when he had taken the lead from the Dutchman at the start. However, the two time F1 world champion was able to take it back and finish P1. In this way, Red Bull have maintained their dominant streak and have won all the grand prix’s and sprint races. It will be interesting to see what Oscar Piastri will be able to do in Sunday’s main race at Spa.
