Ricky Ponting fan Oscar Piastri SPOTTED with Australian cricket team ahead of second Ashes Test match
Oscar Piastri hit the practice session of the Australian cricketers ahead of the Ashes series and traded the steering wheel for some fan with the Kookaburra bat.
Melbourne native Oscar Piastri got his ticket to Formula 1 earlier this year thanks to McLaren literally fighting with Alpine to bring the former F2 Champion to their Woking headquarters. Piastri replaced fellow Aussie Daniel Ricciardo from his seat at the papaya squad to partner Lando Norris in the 2023 Championship campaign for McLaren.
Owing to his busy racing schedule, he hardly ever gets to go home as the F1 circus moves to exotic locations all around the world for the extravagant Grands Prix. Now, Australia is famous for their cricket team that has recently won their Test Series against India. It is a given fact that Oscar Piastri, being an Australian, have a special affinity towards the sport.
In one of the pictures from his younger days, Oscar Piastri is seen looking up at a picture of the famous Aussie cricket team captain Ricky Ponting. Thus, he took some time off racing during the break between the Canadian GP and the Austrian GP to visit home and crash one of the practice sessions of the Australian cricket team as they are currently preparing for their second Ashes Test series. Piastri was not alone on his trip to the cricketers’ den, he was accompanied by the former Australian Football League star Joel Selwood.

Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc deem Oscar Piastri’s batting skills commendable
While Piastri was enjoying his visit to the practice session of the Australian cricketers, he decided to trade the steering wheel for a Kookaburra bat as he tackled some shots from the Aussie pitchers Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc. Impressed with the F1 driver’s batting skills, Lyon jokingly said, “He’s (Piastri) almost got a better defence than a Pom.”
The 22-year-old Australian driver is currently on a trip to explore all kinds of sports apart from F1 as he was spotted visiting an MLB stadium a few days ago. Then, he was also seen hanging out with tennis star Andy Murray. And it now looks like he has decided to draw the line to his exploration with the cricket team of his own home country.
