Sebastian Vettel decided to hang his leather at the end of the 2022 season. Following a glitterring career, enamoured with a total of 4 Formula 1 World Championships, the German Icon decided to step away from the sport. Vettel retired at the age of 35. In Modern Formula 1, 35 is barely considered to be ‘old’ in terms of driving potential. Following the beloved driver’s retirement, his fans expected a comeback to racing from the Formula 1 legend.
Fernando Alonso’s comeback to F1 and his ability to bag multiple podiums and produce stunning overtakes at the age of 42 has resulted into the Vettel fans getting increasingly optimistic for the Legend’s return to the racetrack. Vettel has only been spotted at show event and has yet to appear in a race since his emotional retirement last season. Multiple reports surfaced earlier this year suggested that Vettel might make his racing comeback at the iconic 24 hrs of Le Mans. However, Vettel. himself had laid rest to these hopes.
Vettel spoke to derwestern.de about the possibility of him racing at Le Mans, however, the former champion revealed that the conversations have not resulted in a drive.
It was in conversation because I had several inquiries, But there is nothing concrete yet and it is already quite late. It would be a surprise if something else came out of it.Sebastian Vettel commented on his return to racing.
As several fans of the great driver hope for a comeback, they also wish the legend to be happy and according to his retirement video, the 35 year old Vettel wanted to seek for that happiness within his family. At the time, the widely-adored racer is doing just that.
Team principal at AlphaTauri – formerly known as Torro Rosso names the best driver he has seen in all his years
Franz Tost, the Team Principal at Red Bull’s AlphaTauri, has played a crucial role in nurturing young talents for Red Bull’s main team. With a rich history that includes managing drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, and Max Verstappen, Tost, set to retire at the end of 2023, was asked about the fastest driver he’s witnessed during his Formula 1 journey.
When questioned about the quickest driver from his tenure at Torro Rosso (now AlphaTauri), Tost, despite his vast experience, found it challenging to single out just one. Instead, he named two drivers who were the obvious choices.
Of course, it’s easy to say. I could say now Max Verstappen; I could say Sebastian Vettel.
Tost’s selection resonates with the drivers’ impressive achievements, collectively securing seven World Championships for Red Bull (Sebastian Vettel – 4, Max Verstappen – 3). The acknowledgment highlights the exceptional talent Tost has had the privilege of working with at AlphaTauri.
