“The best of Checo Perez is coming”: Sergio Perez’s father predicts when he will see his son as the F1 World Champion

After the end of the 2020 season, Sergio Perez was in the worst sort of a limbo situation as his contract with Racing Point was not renewed, with the team changing their name to Aston Martin Racing and taking up Sebastian Vettel as Lance Stroll’s teammate, and Perez not being able to secure a deal with any other team at the moment. Even when it was the very last week of the Championship, Sergio’s future in Formula 1 was undecided, and he kept answering questions about his career moves vaguely.

Then, in a shocking announcement, Red Bull declared that they would be dropping Alex Albon, and taking up Sergio Perez for a multi-year contract. This was Perez’s lifeboat at that time, and he quickly grabbed the opportunity of racing at one of the topmost teams in the league. In 2021, Perez showed the world the ability that he wields behind the wheels by scoring a Grand Prix win and playing a crucial role in helping Max Verstappen get his first World Championship title.

Come 2022, Sergio Perez has cemented his name in F1 as a formidable driver, posing huge competition to other heavyweights like Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Carlos Sainz. At times, Perez even came out on top of Max Verstappen, and that gave him a newfound confidence to chase the World Championship title himself. Alas, the season ended with Perez narrowly missing out on P2 in the points table and settling for the third spot behind Charles Leclerc, but Checo’s father believes it will not be too long before Sergio Perez has a World Championship title to his name.

Papa Perez believes son Sergio Perez still has a lot to show the world in terms of racing potential

Speaking of Sergio Perez’s chances of winning a World Championship in the near future, he said to the news daily ESTO, “It is the most important moment that we are experiencing in Mexican motorsports, this great support that ‘ Checo ‘ has received from Red Bull and what is to come. We want first places only, so I think the best of Checo Pérez is coming and we have to enjoy it.”

To say that Sergio Perez’s father Antonio Pérez is a proud father, would be an understatement. He has attended many of his son’s races this year, and has even gotten a beautiful photo with Lewis Hamilton’s dad clicked at the Mexican GP. Now, only time will tell if his dreams for his son come true in the upcoming F1 season and Sergio becomes a serious contender for the World Championship title.
