With less than a week left for the British GP, Lewis Hamilton would have wanted to keep his focus on the track but that hasn’t been the case. The Brit was subjected to a racist remark by Nelson Piquet during a podcast. This has left the fans fuming and most of them have taken to twitter to express their anger and unhappiness. It’s something which shouldn’t be accepted in any sport or society.

We all know that F1 has always been perceived as a rich man’s sport and the governing body is doing everything in their capacity to change that image. Therefore, it becomes their responsibility to take strict action against the culprit this time around. Along with the fans, one eminent person which has also supported Lewis Hamilton is Naomi Schiff.

The television present earlier this month was questioned by the fans on Twitter about not having enough racing experience to become a television presenter. At that point in time, Lewis Hamilton was one of the first people to defend her. He said, “Naomi is an ex-professional racing driver and totally qualified to give her opinion as part of the Sky team.”

“She’s been a great asset since joining and we should welcome more representative broadcasting with open arms. Still have a long way to go to change these attitudes in sport.”

Now, she seems to return the favor in the most empathetic manner as she comes to out show her support to that person who has been an ambassador of inclusivity.

She said, “It’s great to see so many united with Lewis Hamilton in their messaging. Racism is a societal issue and it makes no exception for sports. Statements and words are a starting point but there needs to be action for change.”

It’s pleasing to see so many prominent people standing up for Lewis Hamilton and standing against the social evil that racism is. Let’s hope this incident helps people to become more inclusive and accepting, and in turn help the society to move in the right direction.
