Formula 1 has always been a secluded sport with its gates open to the elite few of Europe. But after its ownership changed hands a few times and it finally came under the wing of Liberty Media, F1 has become one of the only sports which puts special emphasis on supporting all kinds of social issues, and believes in keeping a positive and jovial environment for all the racers.

And, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and four-time WDC winner Sebastian Vettel are two of the most prominent faces who have always advocated for several important issues in Formula 1. Must current World Championship title winner Max Verstappen has decided to take a different path than his predecessors when it comes to advocating for social causes in Formula 1. The 24-year-old is often found to stay silent regarding the raging issues in Formula 1.

When he was asked if he believes the pressing concerns that Lewis and Seb always try to bring to light on social media are not important, Max Verstappen said no. But he also said that even though he does care about such social causes, he is currently more focused on his performance as a racer.

Being the most recent World Champion, Max Verstappen was expected to join Seb and Lewis and be active on social media addressing all those pressing issues, but the Dutchman has chosen a different path than his predecessors in this respect.

Where Lewis and Seb seize every opportunity to bring the attention of social media to several concerns, Max believes in keeping himself focused on performance. While he does support many humanitarian causes, he is just not as vocal about those as Lewis and Seb. And now, Max Verstappen has disclosed his take on why he has chosen to stay so silent about the issues that have recently rocked the F1 world.

While speaking about Sebastian Vettel’s activism as an F1 racer, Max said, “Of course, I’m in a different stage of my career. And of course, when Seb feels really strong about things, he should say it. Which he does. That’s also great, because you have really different characters in Formula 1.”

But Max also said that he cannot be as vocal as Seb as he wants to focus on his performance solely. He said, “I think, it should always be from yourself, like how you are. You shouldn’t be a fake person, trying to just be the ambassador for Formula 1.”
