Toto Wolff assures another World Championship is coming Lewis Hamilton’s way, claims ‘he is motivated to achieve 8th title’

Lewis Hamilton is currently in his 16th season in Formula 1 after having made his debut in the pinnacle of motorsports in 2007. Only a year after entering into the F1 world, young Lewis had seen his first World Championship victory after a wildly controversial title battle with Felipe Massa. That happened to be Lewis Hamilton‘s only F1 trophy win with McLaren, as he moved to Mercedes in 2012 to many fans’ surprise. The Silver Arrows, at that time, were not displaying a peak performance, and Lewis’ shift made many people assume he would never get another Championship title. But the Briton proved everyone wrong as he went on to attain six more season victories, equalling his trophy count with that of the F1 legend Michael Schumacher.

But now, a lot of the critics believe Lewis Hamilton has reached a career slump as he had won his last Grand Prix at the Saudi Arabian GP in 2021–almost a year and a half ago. The man from Stevenage is now nearing his 40s, and even though he shows no signs of stopping in his quest for another F1 Championship, Lewis Hamilton is running out of time in a sport where drivers mostly retire in mid-30s. This has raised a massive question of whether he will ever get his hands on the elusive eighth title. But Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff is convinced Lewis has a lot more to give before he bows out of F1.

While the critics believe Lewis Hamilton has not lost his mojo to go for further Championship wins, Toto Wolff has claimed otherwise. He said, “I think he feels very strong and we just need to give him a car that is capable of doing that, and hopefully we can build a winning package for this season and then have something more that can take him to his eighth title. I have no doubt that he is motivated to achieve this.”

In 2022, Lewis Hamilton had his first winless season ever since debuting in Formula One 15 years ago. Thanks to new recruit George Russell, Mercedes managed to have a single Grand Prix victory last year. This has raised a lot of eyebrows as fans believe the Silver Arrows might drop Hamilton if he does not yield good results. Denying this, Toto Wolff said, “Personally, we have a great relationship with him and within the team he has been one of the strongest pillars of the last ten years, so we are in a really good position.

In other news, Mercedes was supposed to debut some new upgrades for their W14 at Ferrari’s home race in Imola. Unfortunately, the devastating floods in the Emilia Romagna region compelled the F1 authorities to cancel the race with no official confirmation on whether the Imola GP would return at a later time this year. Now, the Silver Arrows have decided to shift the debut of their upgrades to a later date and thus, the Mercedes W14 will be seen in a new avatar at the upcoming Monaco GP.
