Trouble at Turn 1: Carlos Sainz loses P1 and ends up at the back of the grid in the United States GP in only 30 seconds

Just when things started looking up for Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz at the United States Grand Prix after getting pole position on Saturday’s Qualifying, it seems that fate had other things planned for the Spaniard during the Main Race. The racers were not even thirty seconds into the United States GP when Max Verstappen took the lead from Carlos Sainz due to a poor start from the Scuderia recruit, and as Sainz was struggling to regain his position, George Russell came up from the back and collided with Sainz’s F1-75.

The contact between Carlos Sainz and George Russell came as a surprise for all the Tifosis who were pegging their hopes on Sainz getting his second Grand Prix victory this season. Unfortunately, Sainz complained that he had a puncture, and only a few moments later, it was seen that his Ferrari was called into the pits, as he had to retire due to mechanical issues resulting from the crash with Russell’s Mercedes.

As the cars pulled up into their starting grid positions, the lights went off and the 2022 United States GP kicked off. The collision happened in the blink of an eye, just when Carlos Sainz was trying a maneuver to regain his position at the top of the grid which he had lost to Max Verstappen due to a poor start to the race. And that is when George Russell, who qualified for the US GP in the fourth position, came up from behind Sainz and crashed into the Spaniard’s F1-75.

Unfortunately for Carlos Sainz, he had to retire his car citing issues resulting from a water leakage and also some damage to the radiator as a result of the collision with Russell’s W13. The stewards took notice of the incident in the starting lap, and immediately issued a 5-second penalty for the Briton. This happens to be Carlos Sainz’s sixth race retirement in the current Formula 1 2022 season.
