Formula 1 is a sport with some of the most passionate fans. Millions of viewers watch the sport every race weekend. However, sometimes fans often end up booing drivers and teams. This has happened with drivers such as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton and even with F1 team bosses. Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff silenced one such fan during the Austrian GP weekend.
The Austrian Billionaire was at an event for Mercedes when he heard a person booing him amongst the crowd. Straightaway, Wolff took the mic and asked, “Who is booing? Show me.” The fan then raised his hand in the middle of the audience. Toto Wolff decided to roast the fan. The 51-year-old replied, “You should drink less beer.”
This was a clever dig by the Mercedes team boss in reference to some notorious fans at the Red Bull Ring. However, Wolff didn’t stop there, the 51-year-old continued, “You are really not a nice-looking guy.” This comment was met with laughter and cheer from fans attending the event. Certainly, Toto Wolff knows how to stop someone from booing him.

Mercedes has been working extensively on upgrades to get back to the front of the grid this season. Unfortunately, things were not in the team’s favor at the Red Bull Ring with both drivers failing to even out-race the McLaren of Lando Norris. The frustration is prevalent at the Brackley-based team. So much so, that Wolff admitted that the car was bad on the team radio to Lewis Hamilton.
Toto Wolff was aware that there is a lot of work to be done back at the team’s base in Brackley. Although Mercedes needs to first understand the reason behind its poor performance in Austria. The Silver Arrows are set to bring more upgrades over the course of the season in an effort to bridge the gap at the front to Red Bull Racing.
Thus, Toto Wolff swiftly silenced a fan who was booing him in Austria. The 51-year-old has a bold personality and does not shy away from making a statement in public. Subsequently, it is no surprise that Wolff stopped the fan in this instance. Perhaps, this would stop more fans from trying to repeat the same towards the Mercedes team boss in the future.
