There is always something special about the Brazilian GP as it stands out amongst all the other F1 races. In the past, it has given us some wonderful moments like Max Verstappen’s massive victory for Red Bull against at the 2019 race when six-time Brazil GP winner Lewis Hamilton fell down to P7 on the grid. Then there was Mercedes newbie George Russell’s career-first Grand Prix win in 2022 as he brought home the only victory that the Silver Arrows could taste last year.
This time, the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace gifted the fans a brilliant display of two racing greats’ skills as Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez fought till the last millisecond for the third spot on the podium. When the race kicked off, Fernando Alonso got a second-row start as he has qualified fourth at the stormy Brazil GP Quali on Friday. On the other hand, Sergio Perez got unlucky due to the bad weather as he had to start from much further down the grid.
But owing to the massive speed of the RB-19 and Sergio Perez’s masterful racing, he eventually climbed up the ranks from P9. Then, it was a sheer show of speed as Perez crept up on Fernando Alonso who was running in the third position on the grid. But thanks to his immense confidence, Fernando Alonso kept his cool and refused to be intimidated by Checo.
In the end, Fernando Alonso prevailed as he maneuvered past Sergio Perez and got his 8th podium finish of 2023.
