When Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen was found guilty of ‘fracturing’ victim’s skull during a karting track incident

Former F1 driver Jos Verstappen
It is a known fact for all the motorsports enthusiasts that current F1 World Champion Max Verstappen‘s father Jos Verstappen was a celebrated Formula 1 racer during the late 90’s and the early 2000’s. For the unversed, Jos Verstappen is a former Dutch racer, having won two podium finishes in his F1 career, and he also participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Currently, Jos’s son, Max Verstappen, is a Red Bull recruit, and he is making headlines with his charging speed on the tracks as he targets a second World Championship title win.
But as the fans dove into the past of the Verstappen family, they unearthed the disturbing case from 2000, in which Jos Verstappen and his father, Frans, were charged with assault against a man suffered a skull fracture in a karting track incident. Later, the court had found Jos and Frans guilty, but they escaped jailtime as the pair settled the case with the victim out-of-court.
Although the victim’s name was never discovered by the news correspondents, it was said that Jos Verstappen and his victim got into a fight at the north Belgium kart circuit of Lanaken, and the victim ended up with a fractured skull. The reason for the fight is considered to be the fact that Verstappen wanted the circuit all to himself and his group of friends, but the victim objected against it.

The internet discovers a slew of violent cases from Jos Verstappen’s past

Upon taking a closer look into the past of Jos Verstappen, it seems that the karting track incident was followed by several other cases where his violence had been recorded. In 2008, the Dutchman was summoned to court after his former wife Sophie Kumpen, who is an ex-kart racer, complained against him with charges of harassment and assault. Later, Jos was found not guilty, but he was given a three months suspended jail sentence for sending threatening text messages to Kumpen.
Again, in 2011, news came in that the Dutch police had detained a 39-year-old man from Maaseik in the city of Roermond. The man was later confirmed to be Jos Verstappen. He claimed to be having a “discussion” with his ex-girlfriend who was 24 years of age, but the media said he had assaulted her. In 2012, he was charged with accusations of assaulted murder for driving a car into his ex-girlfriend in Roermond. Later, the charges were withdrawn, and he was released from jail.
Recently, there have been many Twitter uprisings against Jos Verstappen for mistreating Max after the fans came to know that the Dutchman would leave his young son at the gas station for making a karting mistake. Although Jos has always appeared to be focused on Max’s F1 career like a loving father should be, such kind of parental pressure can scar any child for life. But nevertheless, it is inspiring to see Max Verstappen achieve great heights in Formula 1 despite his traumatic childhood, which is evident from all these news reports about Jos Verstappen.
