“Worst car I’ve ever seen,” Haas’ 2023 livery draws mixed reactions

Haas have become the first F1 team to 'launch' their car/livery for the upcoming 2023 season. But the livery itself has been rather divisive.

Reveal season is truly underway now: Haas have become the first team to show off their team livery for the upcoming 2023 season. It’s rather ironic how they were the last ones to announce the dates for their ‘car launch’, but ended up being the first team to actually put it out there. They were also the first team whose car, dubbed the VF-23, passed FIA homologation. Fans will hope their car is as quick as they have been.

The next team to launch their car will be Red Bull. They will do so in New York, on February 3, just a few days from now. It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks for F1 fans. Reveal season is exciting, not just because fans get to see the liveries, but also because it means that the season is approaching. It’s certainly been a very long wait, but pre-season testing will start just a week after the last car launch on February 16 (from Alpine). [For the full launch dates, click here]

As for Haas themselves, the car launch is over and done with. The livery itself is very different from the one they sported in 2022. There’s a lot more black, less white, and even less red. It’s somewhat reminiscent of their 2020 livery. The reaction itself has been mostly positive, but as always, there are some detractors. Some have already put it in the upper echelons of the livery ranking, while some think it might be the worse they’ve ever seen.

The logo of Haas’ title sponsor, MoneyGram, is featured prominently on the livery. Three times in fact, but it doesn’t really take away from the look. The logo of clothing brand Palm Angels, the team’s “EntArtainment Curator”, is also featured on the floor edges. As mentioned before, the reaction to their livery has been mostly positive, but people have also noticed some resemblances.

There was a lot of praise for the livery as well: One has to admit, it’s certainly a solid, suave look. One fan’s Guenther Steiner meme, praising the livery, was particularly popular in the replies.

Their title sponsor also loves the livery.

But as also mentioned earlier, not everyone’s a fan of Haas’ new design.

The livery won’t have a great effect on the performance of the car. This car launch will not even have much bearing on the final look of the car, which we may see in pre-season testing or at the Bahrain GP. The real goal is to build a fast car, and Haas and the fans all know that.
