‘Wouldn’t survive a week’: F1 Twitter opines on what Max Verstappen at Ferrari would be like

Max Verstappen had a horrible weekend in Singapore. He started P8 after an error from Red Bull, and then after a poor start, was further put on the back foot. Not only that, but the Dutchman also made uncharacteristic mistakes during the race, and it would be a fair assessment to say that performance-wise, this was likely his worst race of the season so far, even if he was able to recover to P7.

After the race, Verstappen was seen sitting on the ground, looking rather downcast. In the situation that he was in, the response is rather understandable, even though he still leads the championship. The Dutchman wants every win, every pole position, every point possible, and unfortunately in Singapore, he let his own lofty standards down.

Ferrari have rather become infamous for their mistakes this season and even before. Whether it is the strategy, the pit stop, the tyre choices, reliability – you name it. It’s also the hottest seat in Formula 1, and the pressure is INTENSE. You cannot criticize the team in public at Ferrari. Some fans feel that Max Verstappen wouldn’t be able to bear being at Ferrari, while others feel differently.

Could Max Verstappen do better at Ferrari than Charles Leclerc?

Charles Leclerc, who was supposed to challenge him for the championship this year, has had his own set of rotten luck or bad weekends as well. The Monegasque has retired three times from the lead of the race, once through his own fault in France. Even at weekends that he did not DNF in, he has often been compromised by the team. So Leclerc surely knows what Verstappen would have been feeling.

As soon as the image surfaced, the opinions and ridicule came soaring in. Indeed, using the image itself as an example is rather out of context and rudimentary, but it does pose an interesting question. And people have many different thoughts on the matter.

Max Verstappen demands the best from his team, and never shies away from criticizing them or ‘reprimanding’ them on the radio to get his point across. On the other hand, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are usually much calmer, and people feel that this is where they have erred.

Being at Ferrari is not easy. Especially the situation that Leclerc and Sainz find themselves in, when even through no fault of their own or even of the car, they may be completely compromised at any given moment just through the imperfections of the team.

What Verstappen does clearly seems to work for Red Bull and him. He demands the utmost best from the team, and anything below that is a failing. If he was at Ferrari, it’s possible he could have ‘fixed’ them to an extent, but it’s also just as likely that the team will stay as they currently are.
