“You cannot teach that,” Fernando Alonso applauds Max Verstappen’s skill set that helped him to dominate Formula 1 in 2022

Fernando Alonso a two-time world champion with 32 wins and 94 podiums, a legend on his own came out to speak about the talents of Max Verstappen. When one of the greatest speaks about another driver’s skills, it is meant to be someone special. That too with Alonso who has raced the likes of Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.
Max Verstappen has already won the 2022 championship with four more races to go. The dominating force Max has shown throughout the year could not only be given to the car he is driving but to his own skills. Alonso differentiated the two types of drivers with his experience and placed Verstappen on top of it. He didn’t hold back on the non-teachable stuff Verstappen has had in him since the karting days.
As per The Race, Fernando Alonso said of Max Verstappen: “You cannot teach that. I think it has to come from yourself. There are drivers that need more time, they need to study more data, they need all the Friday to analyse and compare with a team-mate and slowly make little steps until they are 100% ready for qualifying. And there are others that are 100% in FP1. Max is one of those and he has been always like that from go-karts to now.”
Max Verstappen explains his part and techniques of driving
Max Verstappen is one of the most successful drivers as of now. He has reached a level of the top ten drivers in history and he is just 25 years old. This benchmark could also be targeted to the new machines introduced this season. A team needs to be more determined than the driver to provide its players to fight for the title. Red Bull did it this season and the Dutchman utilised it to the core.
Max Verstappen understands it to be only a matter of practice: “It’s a practice as well, and in general understanding what to do. You can practice it, but you also need to understand what you’re practising. From a young age, my dad has been working a lot with me to try and understand changes on the kart at the time.”
The now two-time champion explained: “Because at the end of the day, the mechanics are pretty similar. It just is more advanced in Formula 1. But going out and actually really feeling what is the difference [is important].”
Max Verstappen is now getting the recognition he has been searching for after settling on the top for the past few years. He has been the only one winning races in the core dominating season of Mercedes. But this season, Verstappen just proved himself to be a different gravy with 12 wins already.
