Yuki Tsunoda has unexpectedly become the main man at AlphaTauri. After his previous teammate Pierre Gasly exited the team to join Alpine, there was a equal status established at the team. With Nyck De Vries debuting in F1 for a full season with the team, it was expected that the Dutchman would be the one who would ultimately lead the team.

Considering the team’s results and its 9th place in the constructors championship, it is hard to believe that the AlphaTauri pair has adjusted to the car yet. The team only has two points so far this season with 100% of those coming from Yuki Tsunoda. Rookies Logan Sargeant and Nyck De Vries are the only two F1 drivers on the current grid who haven’t scored a point yet.

Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda has been delivering consistent results so far following a back to back points position. Yuki achieved a P10 finish in two back to back races at the Azerbaijan GP and in Australia. While Tsunoda lost out to Kevin Magnussen for 10th place, the Japanese driver has been applauded for his consistency. That seems to be the main issue at hand.

In an interview, here is what he had to say. “I think I was really close to the point, so obviously a shame, but pretty happy with my performance. A river needs to extract the performance as much as possible from the car. So it’s good that I’m able to definitely extract the performance every race, more than last year,” he said. “Last time I [finished] P10, so I have to keep working like this,” he stated.

Yuki Tsunoda wasn’t the only happy individual to leave following the 2023 Miami GP extremely happy. Max Verstappen and Red Bull were on a charge where they went on to showcase pure dominance and managed to win the race with a staggering 1-2 finish. It will be interesting to see what’s coming ahead for AlphaTauri when thee new upgrades will be introduced.
