Yuki Tsunoda to enter the make-or-break season of his F1 career as his AlphaTauri Boss gives a bold warning
Yuki Tsunoda recently got an ultimatum from his AlphaTauri Boss Franz Tost as he demanded the Japanese should score more points in 2023.
For AlphaTauri racer Yuki Tsunoda, the 2022 season had been disastrous since he could only score 12 points for his team in total. This resulted in AlphaTauri ending their campaign with the second-last position in the Championship Standings–a steep decline from 2021 when they had come 6th. Undoubtedly, the Team Principal of AlphaTauri, Franz Tost, is unimpressed with the performance from last year, and thus, he is demanding results from the 2023 season right from the beginning.
Franz Tost has decided to switch his leadership strategy so that he can glean better efforts from his team. He has been given a strict aim for Yuki Tsunoda in 2023, and in case the Japanese racer fails to achieve it, Tost implied that his seat at Red Bull’s sister team will be given away to someone else whom the executives see as a better fit for the role. Now, the onus is on Tsunoda to achieve his best results in the upcoming season and show it to all his critics that he deserves the chance to be in the king class of motorsports.
Yuki Tsunoda entered Formula 1 in 2021 and he drove alongside Pierre Gasly for the couple of years that he has spent at AlphaTauri. But for the upcoming campaign, he will be the senior driver at the Italian outfit as Gasly is leaving for a seat at Alpine. While fans are disappointed to see the Tsunoda-Gasly partnership being broken up, this is the chance for Yuki to measure up to his role as the senior AlphaTauri racer and prove his merit.

Franz Tost demands that Yuki Tsunoda has to “score many more points than he did last year”
In 2022, Yuki Tsunoda could only score 12 points, which is a solid 9-point less than what Pierre Gasly could give to the team. Still, his contract with AlphaTauri was left untouched even though Red Bull is infamous for terminating the roles of their drivers just because the authorities were not happy with the results.
Speaking on his expectations from Tsunoda in 2023, Franz Tost said, “Last year, Yuki struggled with the car. This year, as I expect we will have quite a competitive car, Yuki must always aim to be in Q3 and finish the races in the points. He is a very highly-skilled driver and now has a lot of experience with two seasons in Formula 1. For this reason, of course, he has to score many more points than he did last year.”
Now, the AT04 has already been unveiled for the next season’s campaign, and fans have been amazed at the livery design. AlphaTauri being a fashion brand, they have surely excelled at bringing some style into the F1 grid. But it remains to be seen how the racecar performs on the tracks at the season opener in Bahrain in only a few weeks’ time.
