Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll has been the talk of the paddock for a few weeks now. Before F1 preseason testing started in Bahrain, it was announced that the Canadian driver won’t be able to take part in the three days of pre-season testing taking place in Bahrain. while everyone was confused as to why this was the case, Stroll and Aston Martin, further confirmed the actual reason.

In a statement, both the parties stated that Lance Stroll had been in a cycle accident. Due to this unfortunate incident, the Aston Martin driver had injured his wrists badly. This in turn, prevented him from taking part in pre-season testing wherein reserve driver Felipe Drugovich took his place. Pre-season testing is crucial for the driver to get to know the car and find ways to improve it in order to suit his driving style better.

A few days before the Bahrain GP race weekend started, there was speculation whether Lance Stroll would be competing or not. However, the team announced that Lance would in fact be competing in the opening race of the 2023 F1 season. The Aston Martin pilot finished P6, P6 and P7 in the three practice sessions while his teammate was always in the top 3.

The FIA conducts a safety test known as the ‘ejection test’ where a driver has to get out of the car in a specific amount of time. this is in case of an emergency wherein the driver would need to get out of his F1 car ASAP. according to reports, Lance Stroll failed to pass the test for the first time. However, the FIA let him do it for the second time and he actually passed the test.

Although, after actually driving the car, the severe depth of the situation was made clear to everyone. Lance Stroll wasn’t able to get out of the car and had to be helped by his mechanics. This poses a high risk on the driver in case there is an incident where he is required to get out of the car as soon as possible.

Getting out of the car in a short amount of time is a necessity. During the 2020 F1 season in Bahrain, Romain Grosjean had a huge crash which led to his car going up in flames. If he would not have acted quickly, he would have lost his life. With Lance Stroll’s injured wrists, the risk is very high for the team and the driver to take. With the FIA still allowing him to race, it has sparked a lot of questions.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin space has impressed the whole paddock. Fernando Alonso went on to top FP2 and FP3 and might do the same for qualifying. The team seems to have made some big changes in their car and it looks like they will be the ones fighting with the top teams.
