Lewis Hamilton struggled in Formula 1 since the start of the ground-effect era in 2022. The seven-time world champion had failed to win even a single race in the past two seasons. However, Hamilton finally emerged victorious after a gap of 945 days to take victory at this year’s British GP.

At the start of the 2024 season, Lewis Hamilton announced his move to Scuderia Ferrari for next year. It is widely believed that Mercedes’ disappointing performance in the ground-effect era might’ve motivated this move. As Ferrari had won races in 2022 and 2023.

However, Mercedes has improved drastically over the course of the 2024 F1 season. The Silver Arrows have now won two back-to-back races this year, a feat otherwise only achieved by Max Verstappen and Red Bull. As such, Will Lewis Hamilton regret leaving Mercedes after British GP victory?

Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move more than just performance

Scuderia Ferrari is the most successful team in history of Formula 1. It is the only team which has raced in every season of the sport. Unsurprisingly, Ferrari has the largest fanbase in the world of motorsport with millions of ‘Tifosi’ cheering for Maranello. Lewis Hamilton had expressed his desire to race for the Scuderia in the past and as such he took the opportunity when it came this year.

The seven-time world champion owns Ferrari cars in his garage and has an emotional connection to the Italian carmaker. The lucrative multi-year contract only helps matters. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton seems to be eager to work with Fred Vasseur as the Frenchman tries to bring glory back to Maranello in the coming years.

Ferrari might be struggling in recent races compared to Mercedes. Charles Leclerc even claimed that the team threw his race in the toilet at Silverstone. However, Maranello has been far more consistent than the Silver Arrows in the ground-effect era. This consistency could be a much safer bet than Mercedes’ surprise resurgence.

Lewis Hamilton would likely not regret his decision to move to Ferrari following his win at Silverstone. Rather, the Briton would gain confidence in his own abilities as he finally broke his win drought in the sport. Fans could expect Hamilton to push himself to the limit with the Scuderia next season.
