FC Barcelona planning to raise a massive €100 million for Erling Haaland in the summer

FC Barcelona is gearing up to make a 100 million bid for the Norwegian superstar as they reportedly sell shares of their media production company.

Erling Haaland has been a top commodity in the transfer market for a long time and top clubs all across are getting ready to spend fortunes to sign the Norwegian superstar. Spanish giants FC Barcelona is keen to win the race for the 21-year old forward that has lit up the Bundesliga and Champions League over the past two seasons.

According to GOAL, FC Barcelona is working on a plan to raise €100 million (£83m/$113m) to fund the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the summer. Haaland’s performances have attracted attention from the world’s biggest clubs, including FC Barcelona, who are committed to getting his signature later this year.

Borussia Dortmund has officially confirmed that Haaland is not up for sale in the current winter transfer window, however, the possibility of a sale at the end of the season is not out of the window. The Norwegian forward will only have two years left on his contract in the summer, and the Catalan club is reportedly working behind the scenes to make sure that they have the financial power to submit a formal offer.

However, with the amount of debt the Catalan giants are in, the process does not look easy. The club is still in the process of reducing their wage bill by loaning out players, or re-negotiating contracts with the existing players.

Further, according to GOAL, FC Barcelona can free up a substantial portion of money for transfers by selling a 49 per cent stake in Barca Studios, the club’s media production company. Reportedly, that sale would give the club €100m to go towards the cost of a deal for Haaland, but much could yet depend on their ongoing bid to recover part of their players’ image rights.

The club is looking to offload Ousmanne Dembele and Philippe Coutinho this summer and it remains to be seen which clubs would be interested to sign these players.
