FIFA gives the green signal for fans to use ‘rainbow-colored’ bucket hats and flags in the 2022 FIFA World Cup following backlash

Rainbow flags have been allowed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA has taken a great initiative and a step ahead by allowing teams to use rainbow-colored bucket hats and flags inside the stadium. Wales and England are among the nations who have taken this issue seriously, as they were to wear the One Love armbands during the FIFA World Cup but were pressured by FIFA to drop their gesture.

But now they have been allowed to use the flags as a protest to the LGBTQ+ issues in the host country for their second round group stage FIFA World Cup matches. German players covered their mouths during the team photo in their first match as a symbol of being silenced by FIFA and so FAW has issued their statement for the remaining matches.

As a result, FAW said in a statement, “In response to the FAW, Fifa has confirmed that fans with rainbow wall bucket hats and rainbow flags will be allowed entry to the stadium for Cymru’s match against Iran on Friday. All World Cup venues have been contacted and instructed to follow the agreed rules & regulations.”

When asked about the One Love situation, Gareth Southgate said: “I think we’ve got to be comfortable that we know what we stand for. That’s not to say we won’t do anything moving forward if the timing’s right, but I think we are rushing to be seen to be doing something, we could make an error that doesn’t land well.”

The FAW has expressed their togetherness with the fans and has confirmed, “The FAW urges Fifa to adhere to their message that everybody will be welcome in Qatar during the World Cup and continue to highlight any further human rights issues. We remain with the belief that football is for everyone.”
