Kylian Mbappe scored three goals in the dying minutes of the first half and added two more after the break. He was given the captain’s armband in the absence of senior players like Marco Verrati and Marquinhos. PSG coach Christophe Galtier was also impressed with Mbappe’s goal-scoring form. “Kylian Mbappe’s a goalscorer, he’s obsessed with goals and attacking. I’m not going to say he’s going to gain confidence [from scoring five goals], but he’s up to his standard.Galtier added.

After receiving the MOTM award for this performance, Mbappe was respectful toward his opponents. “We’re happy, we came to qualify and respect this team,” he said. “Respect means playing at our level. We’re happy. It was a great opportunity for [Pays de Cassel], and for us because we also come from amateur football. We are very happy to come and play, and it is an important competition for Paris Saint-Germain,” Kylian Mbappe said to the press.

According to Goal, PSG coach Galtier believes that the 24-year-old Frenchman is worthy of the captain’s armband in the absence of Marquinhos. We decided at the start of the season that Kylian should be the second captain. He deserves to have this armband,” Galtier exclaimed.

Kylian Mbappe has now reserved his place amongst the best footballers in the world after his recent performances. His heroics at the 2022 FIFA World Cup almost broke Lionel Messi‘s dream of lifting the trophy. The first player of this century to score a hat trick in the FIFA World Cup final, Mbappe has been lethal for both club and country.

The French forward has been unstoppable in front of the goal this season. He has scored seven goals in the UEFA Champions League, 13 goals in Ligue 1, and eight goals in the FIFA World Cup. Despite having players like Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi on the same roster, Mbappe often steals away the spotlight from his teammates with his staggering numbers.

The French champions will be facing league rivals Reims on 30 January 2023 at Parc des Princes. It will not be an easy job for the reigning champions to defend their league title with rival club RC Lens giving them a head-to-head competition. Do you think Kylian Mbappe can finish as Ligue 1’s top-scorer again this season?
