After a long and successful at Camp Nou, Busquets has confirmed his departure from Barcelona this summer. This is despite efforts by manager Xavi to persuade him to stay for another season.

The club is looking for options to replace the influential midfielder. Busquets himself has revealed his preferences for the role. Manchester City‘s Rodri and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi are topping his list.

In a recent interview, Busquets acknowledged the qualities of Rodri and Zubimendi. He said, “I know there is lots of talk about players, Rodri and Zubimendi for example. They are very good footballers, and perhaps the ones who best match the DNA and style that’s wanted at Barca, but they play for another team.”

The Barca veteran also mentioned Nico Gonzalez, who is currently on loan at Valencia, as a viable option. However, Busquets has expressed reservations about pursuing Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich as a potential replacement. He has pointed out the differences between German and Spanish football. He has emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to young players within the Barcelona system who possess the necessary talent and understanding of the club.

Barcelona’s search for a suitable replacement for Busquets is complicated by the financial constraints the club is facing. While Kimmich and Rodri are highly regarded and valued by their respective clubs, the cost of securing their services may pose a challenge for Barcelona.

Busquets has reportedly voiced his desire to continue playing for a while after leaving Barcelona. But then he admitted he wants to get into management.

Talking about this, he said, “First I will finish my sports career. Then I’ll get my coaching card. And of course I would like to try to manager here. I say try because although I think I have the necessary knowledge and skills for it, then you have to know how to transmit them“.

Busquets then concluded as he said, “I know that this is not easy because you are in charge of 25 footballers with their character, their problems and their way of seeing life. And your role is to help them in everything.”
