With the scenes of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix still being fresh in the memories of race fans all around the world, Red Bull Christian Horner holds a different view. The boss of the Austrian team feels that the ‘short memories’ of the critics and fans will make sure that they end of forgetting the controversial end and will only hold onto Max Verstappen being the 2021 World Champion after a while.

The 24-years-old made his move on the seven-time world champion when Michael Masi allowed him to start besides Lewis Hamilton in a 1-lap sprint race. With fresh tyres being equipped, the result was only a formality as Verstappen got the better of Hamilton on the very first turn to ensure that Brit hearts are broken entirely.

Max is absolutely a deserving world champion. When you look at the championship as a whole, of course, the events in Abu Dhabi drew an awful lot of comment but that happens in sport,” Christian Horner stated as quoted by Mirror

We had a lot of bad luck last year, we got fortunate with a safety car, we made the right strategic calls, great strategy, great teamwork and great execution by Max, and we won the race. Time will move on. Max is a very deserving world champion, we are incredibly proud of that, and the history books will always show he is the 2021 world champion.”

Having said that, with Lewis Hamilton only seeking to avenge to catastrophe on 2021 season finale in the upcoming season, the defending champion will be one of the strong favorites for the title once again in 2022, particularly as Red Bull’s car will likely suit the aerodynamic-heavy regulation changes given their technical director, Adrian Newey, is a top-tier aerodynamicist.
