Jos Verstappen To Make A Return In Racing After A Decade

After over a decade, Jos Verstappen is ready to make a return in early 2022. At the age of 49, Verstappen Sr. will make his return as he will take part in the Dubai 24 hours in a GP Elite-prepared Porsche GT3. This will be his first race/outing since 2009 where he raced with Aston Martin at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Jos Verstappen will partner up with Thierry Vermeulen who is the son of Max Verstappen‘s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, who made his debut in Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux this season. Thierry Vermeulen is currently 19 and is being coached by Verstappen senior, he even won his first race recently at Assen as he started from pole position following a second-place finish at Zandvoort.

When did Jos Verstappen last race?

Jos Verstappen’s last competitive race was back in 2009 where he took part in 24 Hours of Le Mans, which saw him finish 13th overall alongside his teammates Anthony Davidson and Darren Turner. Before this, he had taken part in A1GP for Netherlands in 2005 as well, after he left F1 in 2003.

Ahead of his next race, Jos Verstappen commented that “It’s great to race again and it’s good for Thierry to gain even more experience,” He further explained that he is not quite sure whether it will be a full-time return for him.

“This opportunity worked out for all of us. I’m not sure if it’s a one-off or I’ll do more; I’ll see how I feel after this.” Jos Verstappen concluded.
