“He really felt like he was robbed” says Sebastien Ogier
Sebastian Odier was a guest on the RMC Sports Super Moscato Show. When asked about his views on the 2021 season finale he was not short of words. He believes Max was good but the race and ultimately the championship was rightfully won by Lewis. The Dutchman’s last-lap overtake robbed the Briton of his championship.
He remarked, “Of course, it must have been very, very difficult for him to take. He really felt like he was robbed… He was robbed, let’s not be afraid of words, in the last race, said the eight-time world rally champion. No, but, even if I have a lot of respect for Max Verstappen and he didn’t steal his title, he had a great season, and both deserved to be champions, but it’s true that on the last weekend”

The World Rally champion understands Hamilton’s deafening silence at the end of the race. He believes the mismanagement and inconsistencies in following guidelines and incomprehensive rulings by the Race director Micheal Masi had made a big dent in the image of Formula One and should be investigated.

“The confusion is that there was a race where Lewis dominated, he was in front until the end, and then unfortunately for him, a few laps from the finish, there was this famous Safety Car and we make it start again, finally. It happens, but… No, but the truth is that one or the other was beautiful champions, but it’s true that on the face of that weekend, it’s theft and it’s hard to take for Hamilton” concluded the French man.
Following the crash of William’s Nicolas Latifi, a safety car was bought out on the 50th lap. Masi gave the controversial direction that only the five cars between Hamilton and Verstappen were allowed to unlap themselves. Verstappen has a fresh set of tyres while HAmilton had an old set was at a serious disadvantage This resulted in Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the final lap to beat the 7-time World Champion to the title and claim his maiden title.
The FIA has opened an investigation into the end of the race. The findings of this investigation will be presented to the F1 Commission in London (Great Britain) on February 14, after an open discussion between all F1 drivers. These conclusions will then have to be approved by the World Council on March 18 in Bahrain, under the authority of FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
