In the first two races of the season, Ferrari and Mercedes have effectively swapped places, with Mercedes leaping from third to first in the Constructors’ standings. Mercedes is second, but only has one point more than Red Bull because both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had to retire late in the Bahrain Grand Prix, when they were running ahead of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

After a season-long battle with Mercedes in 2021, Red Bull now faces a new challenger in the form of Ferrari as the sport’s new era of regulations takes hold. “They are struggling. I have no feelings about their competitiveness,” said Horner after Mercedes confirms problems with the W13 at the start of the 2022 season and are yet to find a solution for the same.

Horner does not ridicule the idea of Mercedes being a competitor, as he is sure of the fact that sooner or later, Mercedes will join the fight but for now, the team’s main focus is Ferrari who are putting forth a strong front with unbeatable performance. “Obviously I’m focused on our competitiveness in what’s a very intense fight with Ferrari at the moment.” Says Horner.

Even though their main focus is Ferrari, Red Bull still has a difference of 40 points to cover in order to compete against the team. Christian Horner does not seem to be concerned about the situation saying, “It’s still early in the season,” to make assumption about the teams.

“Luck tends to even itself out over the course of the year so I think we’ve just got to go race by race. We are off the mark now, we are on the scoreboard, we have won our first race of the year, both drivers were again very competitive and we’ve just got to build some momentum.” Said Christian Horner after bagging their first win for the season at Saudi Arabia GP.

If the duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz can keep pace with the rest of the field in accordance to the pace, the main focus will shift to reliability, which is an area where Red Bull has already failed once this season with the double DNF in Bahrain. Making it difficult for fans to curate the next steps of the drivers or happenings around.
