Latest reports emerging from Lewis Hamilton’s new deal with Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton extended his stay at Mercedes for another year this season, after he signed a one-year contract extension in March. He was the last driver to have been confirmed on the grid, after he had been putting off an extension since a few months.
However, a one year contract extension raised rumors about the Briton retiring after the 2021 season. As things that, Lewis Hamilton is determined to be a part of the 2022 season, as he completed a training session for Pirelli for the tyre compounds to be used in 2022.
Lewis Hamilton’s current salary earns him £34million per year, and he is willing to lower his salary in his contact, as per Motorsport.com’s international editions.
However, Lewis Hamilton wants his bonus to be doubled if he wins the Drivers’ championship. Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal wants the deal to be completed by June 15.
Lewis Hamilton faces a stiff challenge from Max Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton is currently chasing his eighth drivers championship this season, and his fifth consecutive one. The Briton has struggled in the last two races, and failed to score any points in Baku after a late error from the restart.
Lewis Hamilton has 101 points from his six races so far, which includes three wins in Spain, Portugal and Bahrain. He is currently second in the championship standings, behind Max Verstappen who has 105 points to his name.
Like his rival, Max Verstappen also failed to score points in Baku, after a late tyre failure. The Dutch driver was leading the race comfortably until that point, and was poised for a successive race win.
