Only being at the top of the World Golf Rankings is not enough, one needs to maintain their seat. PGA Tour player Rory McIlory is nearing his 2023 Major season and golf legend Curtis Strange has advised McIlory to not get distracted by “noises”.

The irritable antics of LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman have been getting on the nerves of the golf legend as he believes it’ll cause unnecessary distraction before the major season. The LIV vs PGA war is still ongoing, where recently McIlory’s former agent Andrew Chandler has spoken in favor of the Saudi-backed tour.

McIlory being one of the most vocal participants in the strife between these tours is bound to get caught up in the waves. Just a while ago, he and the GOAT Tiger Woods suggested that Norman take a step back and retire from the CEO position. Only then there may be any talks about “peace” between these groups.

This year Rory McIlory has taken the stance of unofficial ambassador for golf’s established tours. All these poachings for the players have gone off for too long, where the LIV Golf has been successful in snatching and tying players to their unit. The word “sportswashing” has appeared quite frequently in these exchanges.

Last month, McIlory took a bold stance of telling off Norman to “exit stage left” and let the “adults” have a talk about further negotiations. All these have upset Curtis, as he states, “If it wasn’t for the PGA Tou.”

“He is a guy without any deep allegiance or respect for any tour and he has shown that in the last year. He lives in the States and only went back to Australia if he got huge prize money.”

As the Major is coming, McIlory is focused on winning his first title since 2014. This year he has shown great comebacks by winning the FedEx Cup and the DP World Tour’s order of merit.

Curtis noted, “I keep reading another derogatory comment about quality people like Rory McIlroy, or someone else that Greg has thrown under the bus”. “The players are in the midst now and I hope it doesn’t distract from Rory’s ability and potential.

“He is already one of the best of all time but I want him to reach his full potential and not be busied by this noise from the outside. Greg and his Saudi tour is causing that and I hate it.”
