“I begged Greg”: John Daly insists ‘he wants to be a part’ of LIV Golf despite being rejected by Greg Norman

The LIV Golf Series has certainly called its fair share of controversy since its inception. While the golf world is in splits about its opinions on LIV Golf, there is one man who is looking to join the series- John Daly. The likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed have joined the series, it is now through its third event, and well underway with 48 golfers on its roster.

John Daly on the other hand is quite well known for his flamboyant personality and somewhat crazy antics on and off the golf course. He is often known for some of his other actions other than winning two Major titles. He was recently known for his insane cigarettes, coke and M&Ms diet at the PGA Tour. One might think that Daly is the perfect option to join the eccentric and new series.

Speaking to Piers Morgan, Daly said “I begged Greg Norman to let me be on the LIV tour because, you know, we work really hard and I played with Brian Harman in the practice rounds and some other guys in the practice rounds of the British Open and it’s like, we play pro-ams, we get it, OK, that is what is the backbone of a lot of our tournaments.”

Greg said he’s not doing any more and I’m too old, so… but let me go into entertainment and let my friends do all the concerts and stuff. Playing with Bryson DeChambeau in the Open Championship was an eye-opener because he said: ‘It’s the greatest thing on earth. We still play a pro-am – it’s two pros, two amateurs.  That’s what it should be anyway, you’re done in four hours and we play for a lot of money which we deserve to play for,'” Daly continued about why he wanted to play the Series according to Golf Monthly.

Daly also talked about the hypocrisy of other who pointed out the wrong doings of the sport. He said that the politics was ‘unbelievable’ and ‘utterly stupid’. He mentioned the likes of Nike and other companies that sponsor a lot of athletes and events, and ‘little eight and 13-year-olds building shoes for Nike’. Daly said that they were here to play golf- an international sport.
