The controversy between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour seems to be a never ending one. Rory McIlroy, along with Scottie Scheffler and Tiger Woods, has been one of the biggest critics of the Saudi backed series. The situation only seems to be getting worse, as the LIV Players and PGA Tour players will come together to play at the 2022 BMW PGA Championships.

18 LIV Series will be seen at the BMW Champs, and not many PGA Tour players are happy about it. Several golfers have expressed their opinions of distaste, while a few LIV Golfers have also pulled out due to the ‘friction’ that might be caused in the event.

Yet, those who are playing are powering on, and they have a good chance of making it to the top. When talking about certain golfers, McIlroy said that he did not have much of a relationship with them anymore. “I wouldn’t say I’ve got much of a relationship with them at the minute,” McIlroy said, when asked specifically about Westwood, Poulter and Garcia. “But if you’re just talking about the Ryder Cup, like, that’s not the future of the Ryder Cup team.”

“They are the ones that have made that decision. So I can sit here and keep my head held high and say I haven’t done anything differently,”  said McIlroy, iterating that he had not done anything, it was the LIV Golfers doings.

Finally, taking a dig before the end of his conference, McIlroy talked about the new ’54 hole golf format’ that the LIV Series has announced. “I’ll be trying to win a golf tournament regardless,” he said when asked about him going head to head with a LIV Golfer. “They are going to be pretty tired on Sunday – it will be the fourth day.
