One would expect John Cena and The Rock to be on any list of Mount Rushmore pro wrestlers more times than not. However, not for Gunther. The reigning World Heavyweight Champion has broken the ice on the names whom he believes would be on his list of the proverbial Mt. Rushmore wrestlers. They are Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle, and Eddie Guerrero.
Gunther made this revelation while speaking to The Sun. Some fans have been trolling The Ring General for naming Triple H in that list just because he’s his boss. However, the rest three of them are pretty much justified. Furthermore, many are wondering why Gunther left out Goldberg, especially after hailing the latter as his favorite wrestler in front of Bret Hart a few weeks ago on Raw.
In hindsight, it was just meant to amass more heat and was probably not put out for the record books. Gunther’s on a run of his lifetime in WWE of late. In fact, ever since Triple H took over as the creative lead, he has presented the Austrian akin to an invincible marauder.
A staggering fact also suggests that the 37-year-old has held a championship, be it any, for almost three-fourths of his tenure in WWE, and he’s still going strong. He also holds the distinction of being the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.
That reign came to a halt at WrestleMania XL at the hands of Sami Zayn after 666 days. However, better things were awaiting the erstwhile Walter. He went on to win this year’s King of the Ring tournament, upsetting Randy Orton in the finals. Then, at SummerSlam, Gunther ousted Damian Priest to capture the world title.
Why has Gunther been backing down from Sami Zayn?
With Bad Blood within touching distance, there’s yet no confirmation of Gunther being on the card. However, there’s still a chance of making that happen if Sami Zayn somehow cajoles the Imperium boss.
Zayn’s been trying to get under Gunther’s skin since after Bash in Berlin. However, unfazed by his presence, the Vienna-born wrestler has declined all of Sami’s proposals for a world title match. Is the Austrian backing down from a challenge with his tail between his legs?
The Undertaker recently advised adding a bit of chicken sh*t nuances to his repertoire to avert a premature babyface turn. However, Gunther doesn’t seem to be buying any of that, as he has just looked down on the former Honorary Uce as if he were no match for him.
