Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets in the Dream11 IPL 2020 to lift the trophy for the fifth time. They successfully defended the IPL title as Rohit Sharma remains undefeated in 6 IPL finals. This is also the first back to back title for MI in 13 years of IPL.

Mumbai Indians were happy chasing the target as DC won the toss in the finals and opted to bat first. A good bowling display by Mumbai bowlers meant DC could only score 156 runs in 20 overs. Chasing a score for the first time in an IPL final Mumbai Indians were off to a flyer as Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma marched forward with several big shots. De Kock smashed purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada for a huge six in the second over of the powerplay. Rabada went for 14 runs in that over.

Ravichandran Ashwin also couldn’t help as he went for 15 runs in his first two overs of the powerplay. De Kock got out in the fifth over after making quickfire 20 runs. Rohit Sharma played comfortable shots as he looked to gain the upper hand over DC bowlers. Suryakumar Yadav sacrificed his wicket after a mixup with Rohit in the middle. He made 19 runs in 20 balls before heading out.

Sharma scored his second IPL fifty in the tournament but was dismissed by Nortje after a sublime catch by substitute Lalit Yadav. He made 68 from 51 balls in the all-important IPL final. Rohit’s fifty meant Mumbai Indians chased DC’s target with ease.

Kieron Pollard hit 2 boundaries but got bowled to Kagiso Rabada for 9 runs. Ishan Kishan continued his sublime form in the tournament as Mumbai didn’t face any difficulty in the match chasing the target. He remained unbeaten for 33 runs in 19 deliveries. Hardik Pandya tried to win the game by getting a big hit in the penultimate over but was caught out on 3 runs.

Finally, Mumbai won the game in the 19th over as Krunal Pandya hit the winning runs. They defeated DC by 5 wickets to retain the IPL crown. For DC, Nortje took two wickets while Rabada and Stoinis took one wicket each. With this win, MI broke the jinx of winning the IPL in odd years only which they did previously in 2013,2015,2017, and 2019 previously.
