After three weeks of struggle, the Cincinnati Bengals finally succeed with a victory on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, marking their first win of the season. As amazing as it was for the Bengals, star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase shone exceptionally.
Making three catches for 85 yards and a touchdown, Chase led his team to a 34-24 victory in week 4. However, this post-game locker room media interaction took an odd turn, when a reporter asked the receiver if he had applied ‘baby oil’ during the game.
Although he was referencing the moment in the game when Chase slipped through the Panthers’ tacklers, the timing of the question made the wideout give a confusing look. Given, P Diddy, who is facing several lawsuits of sexual assault and abuse charges, is quite in the news lately after 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricants were recovered from his home.
The question took the Bengals’ wideout totally by surprise, but he didn’t hold back from taking a subtle dig at Sean “Diddy” Combs after a brief pause.
Diddy’s name has been involved in sex trafficking and sexual assault for quite some time now. He was arrested earlier this month on serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Ja’Marr Chase delivers standout game with two solid touchdowns
The question about the baby oil was somewhat out of context, as the locker room media interactions are primarily intended for discussing the game. And Chase had quite an outing.
Chase dropped a remarkable performance against the Panthers, giving his team a 14-7 lead in the first half after turning an immediate reception into a 63-yard touchdown.
Interestingly, NFL Next Gen Stats projected Chase to record 1.5 yards after the catch, but he advanced it to 50 yards. The three-time Pro Bowler is described as having “contact balance and explosiveness”, and on Sunday, he proved it once again after struggling to record touchdowns in his first two games of the season.
He finished the Sunday Night Football game with 22 out of 31 passes for 231 yards and two touchdown passes. The Bengals are now headed for a home game against their long-standing rivals the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday at Paycor Stadium.
