Ja’Marr Chase is chasing Randy Moss’ single-season receiving touchdown record. The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver plans to break Moss’ record in 2026.

Since entering the NFL as the fifth overall draft pick, Chase has established himself as one of the top wide receivers. Besides winning the Offensive Rookie Award, Chase has bagged three All-Pro and five Pro Bowl honors, with the last one coming in 2025.

Chase also secured a rare triple crown in 2024. He led all receivers in passes caught (127), receiving yards (1708), and touchdowns (17). But he was still short of Hall of Fame wideout Randy Moss’ single-season touchdown record.

In 2007, the Raiders traded Moss to the New England Patriots. While receiving passes from Tom Brady, Moss scored 23 touchdowns, one additional TD than fellow HOF Jerry Rice in 1987.

Chase plans to surpass Moss and claim the single-season touchdown leader for his own.

The only goal that I have for myself going forward now is just to get 22, 23 touchdowns. I want to break [Randy Moss’s] record with that, but that’s not my full goal every day. You know what I’m saying? My goal is to be better than what I was the last day, try to get my team better than what they were the last day, and just trying to be better than what I was last year, man.

Ja’Marr Chase told NFL Network

Ahead of the 2025 campaign, Chase signed a four-year, $161 million contract extension. Despite losing Joe Burrow last year for a few games, Chase still put up 1412 yards and 8 touchdowns on 125 receptions.

Ja’Marr Chase predicted to have a great year

Chase’s CV is filled with individual accolades, except one. He has yet to win the Offensive Player of the Year award.

Per Yahoo Sports, Chase was a finalist after his historic 2024 season. He lost to Eagles running back Saquon Barkley in the final voting.

According to NFL Stats, Ja’Marr Chase has +950 odds to become the best offensive player in 2026. Only Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs and Falcons RB Bijan Robinson boast better odds.

If Chase breaks Randy Moss’ receiving touchdown record, then he would be in contention to win his first OPOY crown.

Larry Fitzgerald pays ultimate respect to Randy Moss

Former Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald grew up idolizing Randy Moss, who starred for his hometown team, the Minnesota Vikings, in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

On Saturday, Fitzgerald was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. During his acceptance speech, Fitzgerald honored Moss with the ultimate praise.

[The] player who changed my life was Randy Moss. People ask me all the time what I learned from Randy Moss, and my answer’s always the same: I learned nothing. Because there was nothing I could do like him on the football field. They call him The Freak for a reason.

Fitzgerald said

There were a few things Fitzgerald did pick up from Moss.

What I did learn from Moss is about generosity. He gave me his clothes, he gave me his size 14 shoes, he came to my high school games, he let me use his car, and he even surprised me with the knock for the Hall of Fame. Randy, being acknowledged by you, someone bigger than life, it meant the world to me.

Fitzgerald said

Moss was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
