When the Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, the entire basketball nation was shocked. They did not believe that the franchise would give up on their superstar, and that too to a heated conference rival.
Theories and debates about why the 18-time NBA champions decided to do this spread across the media landscape. There were many question marks about his relationship with the top brass as well as fellow superstar Jayson Tatum.
Even fans were left flabbergasted by the Celtics’ decision to let go of a player who was primarily responsible for leading them to second place in the East last season.
But one fan, particularly Giovanni Rubin Jean, took it too hard and poured out his emotions when his mother was recording an Instagram live.
The six-year-old cried throughout the video, letting Jaylen Brown know that he is his favorite player. The five-time All-Star responded to this video by letting little Jean know that he will always be his friend.
Brown is still wrapping up most of his obligations in Boston and is set to host his annual Bridge camp. Gio the Tiger’s parents made it a point that their son could meet his favorite superstar.
This is what Boston will be missing. A true community leader.

The meeting was something of a sight for everyone in the room. As soon as the child went up to Jaylen Brown, the now-76ers forward guard lifted him into the air, hugged him, and was constantly saying words to try and cheer him up.
When the California Golden Bear alum realized that his superfan was still upset with the trade, he tickled him in hopes that he would turn his disappointment into a smile.
Jaylen Brown makes it clear Boston is still his city
This wholesome exchange continued as the superstar guard continuously shook Giovanni Rubin Jean’s hand and also took pictures with his parents.

Jaylen Brown has involved himself in a lot of activities in Boston. He is known for being someone who connects with the community, which is why on the first day of his Bridge Camp, he was asked about his departure to Philadelphia.
It’s okay. Things happen. I love the city of Boston. I always have. I’ve been here for 10 years. Boston is home, and no management or organization will take that away.
Jaylen Brown said
This was him, making it clear that Boston is home to him, even though he grew up in Atlanta and spent his college years in California. Spending close to 10 years in the city and investing in it in the way he has, the 2024 Finals MVP was not going to leave it.

It was as if that had it had he had his way, he would never have left Boston. For someone who has spent that much energy on galvanizing the community, it was hard as his voice wavered as he spoke.
Jaylen Brown was surprised by trade to Philadelphia
When the news first broke of this trade, what baffled everyone was the destination. Everyone was aware that the Celtics were shopping Jaylen Brown, as was evident in the failed attempt to get Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It’s probably going to feel a little weird… It’s still weird now. My brain is like, Philly? Of all places, like… Why would you do that?
Jaylen Brown said
It seems the move even surprised the player in question. As he stated in the past, Celtics players are nurtured to hate teams such as the 76ers and their other rivals.

Therefore, he was surprised more than anyone else that he was being sent to a team that just booted them out of the first round of the 2025-26 playoffs.
