Jim Furyk seems to be on his way back to being a captain at the Ryder Cup. On Friday, reports from AP News claimed that the former major champion will be the captain of Team USA in the 2027 edition of the Ryder Cup.

In the 2025 edition, Team USA was led by Keegan Bradley. He was appointed the captain in 2024 after Zach Johnson and his team suffered a huge 16.5-11.5 defeat in Rome, Italy, in the 2023 event.

Bradley and his side also came up short. In the event at the Bethpage Black Course in New York, the Europeans once again started hot and took a commanding lead after the end of play on Saturday. Despite a gritty fightback on Sunday, the USA ended up losing by a 15-13 scoreline in front of their fans.

Following this, reports of Tiger Woods being the next captain once again came up. The 15-time major champion had found his name linked with this role after the 2023 tournament as well.

At the 2026 Genesis Invitational, Woods admitted that he was asked about being captain in 2027. However, the golfer turned down this opportunity and has taken a break from golf following his DUI arrest and car crash on March 27 in Jupiter, Florida.

Before the incident with Woods, he was reported to be the only candidate. As per reports from Doug Ferguson of AP News, Jim Furyk will be named as the captain of the team for the 2027 tournament at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Furyk previously captained the team in 2018 when the Americans flew to France. In that event, the Europeans again had the upper hand and defeated them 17.5-10.5 at Le Golf National.

Apart from this, the 58-year-old has also served as the vice-captain of the team. He took this role 4 times in 2016, 2021, 2023, and 2025. He would become just the 4th player to get a second chance as Ryder Cup captain.

US golf fans upset with Jim Furyk reportedly being Ryder Cup captain again

Many users on X slammed the PGA of America for this. Some questioned this decision while bringing up his past performance as captain of the team. Meanwhile, one user called him a “sacrificial lamb” and expressed that they were not expecting much from him.

Check out some of the reactions below:

As of now, only three players in history have been captains of Team USA twice. Jack Nicklaus was the first one to do so in 1987, having captained the team before in 1983. Tom Watson in 1993 and 2014, and Davis Love III in 2012 and 2016, are the other two.

Jim Furyk led Team USA to victory in the 2024 Presidents Cup

Jim Furyk has found his name trending as reports claim that he will be the next Team USA Captain at the Ryder Cup. While this has not sat well with some fans due to his previous appearance as captain in 2018, he did lead the Americans to victory in the 2024 Presidents Cup.

Played at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada between Team USA and Team International, the American team dominated the event once again. A team consisting of the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, and Keegan Bradley went on to win the event 18.5-11.5.

So Furyk does have the experience of winning with some of the big names in American golf. Can he do it against a stacked European side, which will likely include 6-time major champion Rory McIlroy, is the main big question.

Speaking of Team Europe, they will have Luke Donald return for a third successive stint. A victory in the 2027 edition will complete a three-peat for the Europeans. Only time will tell what will happen next.
